Poor sleeping positions cause irregular spinal alignment, neck pain and leave your body twisted for hours, holding a position that can cause damage. Sleeping positions

Everyone has their preferred sleeping position, and changing yours might not seem like the most comfortable thing to do, but once you’ve looked over the negative effects that some sleeping positions can have on your body you might be more inclined to give it a go!

Lying on your side

Lying on your side is one of the better ways to sleep. It can stop you from snoring or even help with acid reflux issues. As for posture and your body, side lying does the job as long as you have the help of a good pillow, the right size to keep your spine and neck correctly aligned.

Lying on your back

Lying on your back is the best way to maintain healthy spinal alignment and avoiding back and neck pain. It’s important that you have a good pillow to keep your head supported, and sleeping on your back is the most common reason for snoring.

Lying on your stomach

Arguably the worst position for sleeping, lying on your stomach leaves your neck twisted for up to eight hours while you sleep. Most people would feel uncomfortable twisting their neck for just ten or fifteen minutes while awake, but stomach sleepers force their body to hold this position for a lot longer.

Lying with your body twisted

Whether it’s the fetal position or just with your spine bent, lying with your body twisted can cause damage and pain to your back very easily.

It might be hard to do, but with a bit of time and the proper bedding a better sleeping position can make all the difference. It’s also important not to forget routine – we don’t just need good sleep, but we need enough of it. Having a regular, bedtime and planning for eight hours a night ensures you’re making the most of your sleep.
